Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Daily Read Bytes ("we", "us", "the Service") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive and store your name, email address, profile picture URL, and a Google account identifier. We never see your password.
- Session cookie. A single HttpOnly cookie keeps you signed in. It is first-party and is not used for advertising. Advertising cookies, where they apply, are set by Google and are described under "Advertising" below.
- Activity. When you are signed in, we store the stories you like, your emoji reactions, and any comments you post. Comments are public and are shown together with your name and profile picture.
- Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the Service is used in aggregate: pages visited, approximate region, browser, and device type. Analytics cookies are set by default; you can opt out at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, and your choice is remembered on your device. Google Analytics processes this data underGoogle's Privacy Policy.
Embedded videos
Some stories are based on public YouTube videos. On those pages we embed YouTube's own player in its privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no tracking cookies until you press play; once you play a video, YouTube may collect data under Google's Privacy Policy. Video previews in the feed load directly from YouTube's servers, which receive the standard technical details of any image request (such as your IP address). We never store or rehost videos or their thumbnails ourselves.
Advertising
Daily Read Bytes is free to read and is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google is a third-party vendor, and it and other vendors use cookies to serve ads. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
By default, we instruct Google to serve non-personalised ads: ad-personalisation and ad-measurement signals stay switched off (via Google Consent Mode), so the ads you see are based on the current page and a coarse, general location rather than a profile of your browsing history. Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are covered by this default.
You can review and control the ads you see, and opt out of personalised advertising, throughGoogle Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising ataboutads.info/choices. For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, seeGoogle's partner-sites policy.
What we do not collect
- No payment information: the Service is free.
- No precise location data of our own: any location used for ads is a coarse, general area, never a precise fix.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
How we use information
We use the information above solely to operate and improve the Service: keeping you signed in, showing your likes, reactions, and comments, and understanding which parts of the Service are used. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
Where data lives
The Service is hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure, and data is processed and stored subject to Cloudflare's security practices. Sessions expire automatically and expired sessions are purged regularly.
Your choices and rights
- You can read everything without an account; signing in is only needed for likes, reactions, and comments.
- Signing out deletes your active session.
- You may request deletion of your account data (account record, sessions, likes, reactions, and comments) by contacting us (see below).
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the date above. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
